PHP Basics: Introduction

PHP (PHP: Hypertext Preprocessor) is a server-side language similar to ASP (Active Server Pages) and supports use with many databases such as MySQL, Informix, Oracle, Sybase, Solid, PostgreSQL, and Generic ODBC. PHP is a powerful scripting language that can be used for small and large web based applications. In my experience I have found PHP to be a fairly self explanatory scripting language making it easy to learn, great for beginners and efficient. For any beginner learning the language it is important to start with the basics such as:

Syntax
Operators
Variables
Constants
Control Structures
Language Constructs and Functions
Namespaces
Extensions
Config
Performance/bytecode caching
